My enthusiasm for computers began with an Atari ST and the [Ommikron BASIC](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omikron_BASIC) programming language. Later I continued with an [IBM Model 30 286](https://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/2585/IBM-PS-2-Model-30-286)/[DOS6.2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-DOS) with [Quickbasic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickBASIC). In the 2000s, I was on the Internet with a [US Robotics USR3453B](https://www.usr.com/products/usr3453c) modem. Windows was my daily companion. Around 2007 I started to get involved with Linux. Not as a desktop but as a server because I didn't really find it usable as a desktop (I had no idea), first [Suse](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSE_Linux) then [Mandriva](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandriva_Linux). a little later [Fedora](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedora_Linux). Around 2011 I ended up with [Debian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian). From the beginning of 2013, I used Fedora with [XFCE](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xfce) as my desktop environment because the recently released Windows 8 was simply terrible. I don't remember exactly when I compiled my first [DWM](https://dwm.suckless.org) but [Kai Hendry](https://hendry.iki.fi) got me on the track of the Tiling Window Manager.
